DALI DIMMING CONTROL

Overview

Our ELC system's DALI System has several distinctive features. It was developed to connect to our ELC system based on the standard DALI protocol, and sensor modules can be connected to the DALI communication line to enable sensor-based control. Up to 64 DALI Dimming Modules can be connected to a single DALI Master (also called a DALI Controller by other manufacturers). To eliminate the inconvenience of configuration caused by random addresses when replacing luminaires, each DALI Dimming Module is equipped with a hardware address port, eliminating the need for cumbersome line checks during reinstallation. One of the most important considerations for a DALI system capable of individual luminaire dimming control is communication traffic when a large number of modules are installed. We have addressed this issue through our ELC system software. In addition, we provide a solution for glare and flickering that may occur during LED dimming by adjusting the frequency through software. We encourage you to take full advantage of our competitive DALI system and reliable ELC system.
  • IEC 62386 standard protocol
  • DALI: Digital Addressable Lighting Interface
  • Dedicated digital lighting control protocol
  • Digital transmission method that can replace 0-10V analog control, enabling lighting dimming control (254-step digital dimming output range)
  • Individual digital control is possible by assigning separate addresses to DALI Devices. These DALI Devices can also be programmed to operate in Groups and Scenes.
  • The lighting system can be reconfigured through programming changes without modifying existing wiring.
  • Bidirectional communication between DALI Devices enables responses regarding device errors and status information.
  • Wiring is simple with two lines, eliminating induction issues with high-voltage power lines.
  • DALI power and data are transmitted over two lines without a separate bus cable, and the wire polarity can be reversed.

DALI Device Installation Example

DALI Installation
  • The SMPS and LDM are separated, allowing only the faulty part to be replaced during future maintenance
  • If an LDM fails, it can be easily replaced by changing its Address using the Program Port

Comparison of Constant Voltage and Constant Current LED Drivers and the Suitable Method for Dimming Control

Method Constant Voltage (CV) Constant Current (CC) Constant Current/Constant Voltage (CCCV)
Characteristics Maintains a constant voltage regardless of load changes
Compares the output voltage with a constant-voltage diode
and adjusts the voltage drop between the power source and load
Maintains a constant current regardless of load changes
and compares the output current to keep it constant
Dual CC + CV control method
Dimming Available
(When PWM dimming, a current-limiting method, is applied to a constant-voltage system, the voltage remains constant while the current can be varied freely, making brightness adjustment easy)
Not available
(When PWM dimming is applied using a current-limiting method, the characteristic of maintaining the specified current can distort the waveform, resulting in irregular output and making accurate dimming control difficult)
Available
(PWM dimming is easily applied through the dual-control constant-voltage compensation circuit)
Dimming Control Waveform Current limiting is smooth during PWM dimming control, making dimming control easy The characteristic of maintaining constant current during PWM dimming makes dimming control difficult Current limiting is smooth during PWM dimming control, making dimming control easy
Conclusion For dimming control methods applied to LED luminaires (DALI Dimming Module, Wireless Dimming Module, and 0-10V DC Dimming Module), the SMPS (LED Driver) inside the LED luminaire must use either a constant-voltage method or a constant-current/constant-voltage method.
